Welcome to my blog... My name is Nick Arambula and currently attending the prestigious Syracuse University as a graduate student in the Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation (IDD&E) program.
The purpose of this blog is a platform to communicate my ideas and thoughts to encourage dialogue or feedback about a content management system and cloud computing. This blog will be maintained and all information input by me. These two specific information technologies will be focused in an instructional environment .
For this particular blog, I will be responsible maintaining all content, posting regularly, providing forums for feedback and sharing, to include my reflection and experience while maintaining this blog.

Content Management System
So...what is a Content Management System (CMS) and why do I need to know this?
According
to Techopedia: a content management system by definition is an
"interface that allows users to publish content directly to the web."
(Techopedia.com Content, 2019)
Furthermore;
the company explains that it is more efficient and faster to share
content directly to the Web that creating content and uploading from a
local machine. This process allows a large number of people or groups
to not only add, but to share data remotely.
CMS
provide a simple website interface that can add content to any page in a
highly structured manner. This is generally for a particular set of
users who can view, add, edit and publish content within the CMS.
What's even more interesting is that content can be published from
anywhere and at anytime by the users who can create, add, and edit
content.
Currently
there are four different types of CMS and are categorized as such:
Enterprise Content Management Systems, Web Content Management Systems,
Web Group Content Management Systems, and Component Content Management
Systems.
In
essence- a CMS is a type of software application or any type of related
programs that are used to create and manage digital data.
So what does this mean for the instructional environment setting?
As
I continue my research on this topic, more content and data will be
provided here for myself to analyze, evaluate, and develop deeper
understanding of CMS and how or what their role is or can be in the
instructional environment.
I welcome any thoughts, reflections, or feedback anyone may have and like to share with me here.
Cloud Computing
According
to dictionary. com, cloud computing is the practice of using a network
of remote servers hosted on the internet to store, manage and process
data, rather than a local server or personal computer. (dictionary.com,
2019)
So why cloud computing? Why is this important to me and the above topic (CMS)?
According
to infoworld.com- cloud computing has two meanings an refers to
workloads remotely over the internet or from a pool of resources to be
shared by groups of people.
Furthermore;
cloud computing can be categorized by SaaS (Software as a Service),
IaaS (Infrastructure as a service), PaaS and (Platform as a Service).
In
this blog- I will continue to provide data on this topic and dive
deeper into how this technology can be used in an instructional
environment.
I welcome and feedback and dialogue on this topic.
Thank you for reading this blog...I look forward to your feedback, dialogue, and collaboration on this shared content.

Nick,
ReplyDeleteVery interesting topic, I had to do a little of my own research and reading to wrap my head around the topic. One of the articles I read really laid it out for me, hopefully this will help you in your research as you continue your blog. https://www.explainthatstuff.com/cloud-computing-introduction.html
One of the many things I did not know was that Google searching is a form of Cloud Computing, who would have thunk.
Tony
Tony- I do agree it is complicated and interesting, but I would really like to expand on this topic. I do of course agree on google using cloud computing and something that is next generation of computing which is called "predictive analysis." I'm sure you have heard of it and probably been a part of it based on your searches, search engines use that metadata to predict or recommend what you may be looking for on the internet.

Nick,
ReplyDeleteMan this seems complicated, interesting but complicated...well at least to me. I am not a tech guy at all, I like the idea of knowing whats out their, but when it comes to use or application of it...uhm I get my teen to help. I am looking forward to what you have to share and appreciate the link that Tony posted! Good luck with your blog!
Erric
Eric- thanks man for the feedback and I did some research on this for my B.S. degree a couple years back- focus on homeland security and cyber policy. I will try to make it fun at least to learn about this stuff. I am totally not a tech guy either, but find interest in those topics.
ReplyDelete~Nick
Nick,
ReplyDeleteVery complicated, however intriguing!
As I was reading your blog, I thought of Microsoft Sharepoint and Wiki. On a smaller scale, I know that the Microsoft software and the Wiki website allows the users to interact with content (create, edit, delete, etc.) in real-time and the information is not necessarily stored on their system, but at a remote location.
These are the two sources that I can relate to your subjects, Content Management System and Cloud Computing. I am intrigued and look forward to learning more.

Nick,
ReplyDeleteI find this topic very interesting. I look forward to more posts on your blog in order to understand this technology better. I especially look forward to reading about its context in an instructional setting. Because we are becoming a more global society, I believe this type of technology is going to become more and more important and useful.
